During
July 2000 Generation Youth Issues co-hosted a conference titled
Free Play with Play Scotland. For Generation Youth Issues the importance
of unsupervised play is being undermined by unnecessary intervention
from adults and the risk panic of today.
The
conference title of Free Play has stuck as a slogan for our work
in giving children and young people the opportunity to experience
equal relationships with their peers and the opportunity to develop
meaningful life experience.
Below
are links to the conference papers:
The
importance of unsupervised play
by Jennifer Cunningham: Glasgow based paediatrician
Trust
by Kate Moorcock: teacher and author of Swings and Roundabouts
The
freedom and development of young people
by Mayer Hillman: Senior Fellow Emeritus of Policy Studies Institute
Safety,
play and the commercial playground
by Dr John McKendrick: Lecturer, Caledonian University
Since
the end of the conference Generation Youth Issues has continued
to campaign on the importance of Free Play.
